Notwithstanding the various efforts of resources committed to the fight, asthma is winning the battle, and people with asthma are suffering and dying. In the United States alone, more than 5000 people die each year of asthma.

Part of what seems to be missing is a global approach, a medical model that is focused not on controlling and managing asthma once it is diagnosed, but instead a preventive approach that identifies, controls, or eliminates environmental triggers caused by urbanization.
